Leo's Wisdom

Tolstoy defined art, and not incidentally characterized its value, this way: "Art is a human activity consisting in this, that one man consciously, by means of certain external signs, hands on to others feelings he has lived through, and that other people are infected by these feelings and also experience them."

The value of art, then, is one with the value of empathy.

Studio Tour Coming Up

The Whatcom Artist Studio Tour is a self-guided tour in its sixteenth year. This is a juried tour and 51 of Whatcom County's fine artists and crafters will be opening up their spaces for the first two weekends in October (2/3 and 9/10) from 10am to 5 pm. I am participating again this year and will be sharing my space with the fabulous jewelry artist Jeni Cottrell. Color Guidebooks can be picked up at my studio now so that you can plan your tour.
